DEJI BAKARE WINS MR NIGERIA 2011

The third edition of Silverbird‘s Mr Nigeria pageant went down on Saturday, October 29, 2011 with last year’s winner Kenneth Okoli passing the crown to Deji Bakare, making him ‘the most desirable man in Nigeria’.

The event which created a lot of buzz over the last two weeks held at the Silverbird Galleria attracting a huge turnout as the floor and staircases of the venue were well occupied by guests and many ‘onlookers’. It was a night of manly show-offs; muscles, six-packs abs and cute faces, so as expected the crowd was dominated more by women than men.

Anybody who was expecting the pageant to be as glamorous as the female version – Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria would have been totally disappointed. The organization and effort put into the Mr Nigeria pageant was nothing compared to the MBGN.

The venue was an absolute no-no as they were only about 50 seats available, 60 per cent of guests had no choice but to stand and cheer, hence the staircases of the galleria being occupied.

The anchor of the night, Munachi (a former MBGN queen herself) was far from a good host; the model-rapper lacked charisma and poise as she often fumbled her lines.

According to the contents in the event’s brochure, the pageant was meant to field four judges – Joseph Benjamin, Nadaya Letova, Kelechi Amadi-Obi and Ms Ladi Ene-Garba. But neither actor/show host Benjamin nor photographer Amadi-Obi showed up. A makeshift judge Baxter Slaton was added to round off the panel to three judges.

Performances were nothing out of the usual as JJC, Eva and Chidinma set the guest in the right mood with musical interludes.

After the Swim and Evening wear appearances and ‘Question and Answer’ session, the judges narrowed down the contestants to just five – Deji Bakare, Joseph Agossa, Bandele Adebule, who by the way received the highest cheers from the crowd at any point, Melvin Oduah and Chucks Obichukwu.

Fourth runner up went to Joseph Agossa, third runner up to Bandele Adebule, Second runner up to Chucks Obichukwu. The second position was given to Melvin Oduah, leaving Deji Bakare to be pronounced as Mr Nigeria.

Other awards like Mr Photogenic, Mr Sports, Mr Amenity, Strongest Man, Mr Smart, Mr Talented, Mr Physique, and Mr Personality went to Henry Ojini, Chidi Onuike, Alex Uriesi, Oluwagbemiga Adetuberu, Ikorishor Ajabi, Deji Bakare, Ugochukwu  Uzowuihe and Ayomikun Odunwole respectively.

‘Wow, I’m grateful. I really am’, Bakare said when he was pronounced winner.

The show was then called to an end but it wasn’t over, as one of the contestants who obviously not happy with the results showed his disapproval as he ranted noisily in the make-shift dressing room. But after the other contestants calmed his nerves down, all was back to normal.

The new Mr Nigeria Deji Bakare, is a rapper-singer who had worked for years, unsuccessfully, to build a music career both as a solo artiste and as member of a group. Popularly called Dej-1, he parted ways with the group Reprezent to go solo many years ago. He had also, at different times, worked in hospitality, managing his father’s hotel business in Lagos.

By winning the competition, Deji Bakare gets the grand prize of N1M (One million Naira) and a brand new car. In addition, he will also win a trip to Sao Tome and Principe including 5 nights at the Pestana Hotels, an Ipad 2 and Blackberry Bold 9900. He will also go on to compete in the Mister World 2011 pageant.

SAMSON SIASIA SACKED FROM SUPER EAGLES JOB

Super Eagles Coach Samson Siasia has been fired by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the BBC reports. We’re told his sack today Friday, October 28, 2011 is based on his failure to take the country to the forthcoming 2012 African Cup of Nations.

According to the BBC, 11 members of the NFF went into a short meeting and the decision to relieve Siasia of his duties was made after its technical committee had recommended the dismissal of the ex-Super Eagles player.

Siasia’s job had been under the knife after he failed to qualify for the 2012 edition of the Nations cup to be held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

NFF President Alhaji Aminu Maigari was said to have told the board within their short meet that the decision wouldn’t be reversed, according to PM News.

However, sources have also revealed that four out of the 11 NFF scribes are not happy with the decision as they feel Siasia has done way better than his predecessor since he picked up the job as senior coach from Austin Eguaveon in November 2010.

Siasia is yet to make any statement.

Nigerian Music Video Awards [NMVA] 2011 Nominees… Darey & Jodie Top The List of Nominees

The 2011 nominees list for the NMVA, Nigeria’s first music video awards is finally out.
Topping the list this year is Darey and J’odie with four nominations each and followed closely by Goldie and Freestyle with three nominations. Other great contenders are Omawumi, Sammie Okposo, Dipp, T.I.V and Tipsy who also have two nominations.
For the first time since its inception, NMVA has included Best Southern Africa Video and Best Western Africa Video as new categories in this year’s award.
Aside recognizing new artistes who are doing extremely well in their chosen careers, the awards is also recognizing the efforts of incredible new music video directors. Nominated alongside Clarence Peters this year in the Best Cinematography category are Nodash and Tokah for their ingenious directing on No Be Dada and Kuchi Kuchi respectively. They were also nominated alongside Patrick Elis in the Most Promising Video Director category. The NMVA has established that artistes and video directors as well as producers can share glory side by side on the same stage as witnessed at the previous successful editions.
Lots of plans are already in the pipeline as preparations for the fifth consecutive edition of the awards heats up. Expectations are also very high in every sector of the entertainment industry as to what to expect in this year’s event that is fast positioning as the most credible, most respected and most attractive out of Africa.
The awards organizers re-instated their commitment to transparency and as such are weary of all lobbyists warming them to stay at bay as only good videos will be duly rewarded.
The attention of the whole world has been drawn to the first music video awards in Nigeria at one point or the order due to the successes and traditional values associated with the event. In furtherance of the organizers believe for traditional values, this year’s event has been tagged ‘Celebrating Our Cultural Heritage.
To lend credence to the theme of this year’s event, the Federal Ministry of Tourism has endorsed the project as a viable national brand deserving all institutional and corporate sponsorship. It may interest you to know that this year’s edition of the award will be hosted by Lagos State Government.

Iwe is the title (Iwe in igbo means anger), and the song is very touching on all levels. If you understand Igbo, it’ll definitely hit the spot, and if you don’t you can still hear the hurt in Flavour’s voice.

Kelly Hansome Arrested! Signs Undertaking to Mo-Hits Records Concerning Un-Authorized Material

A few weeks ago Kelly Hansome released a remake/remix of a song, I’m feeling good which was originally recorded by 2face & dbanj. The “remix” of the song featured 2face & Kelly Hansome and was on the web for a few hours before taken down.
Fast forward to today, and we get this in our mail box. Go ahead & read:

Yesterday Monday 24th October 2011, at the Garki Police Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, one Kelechi Obinna Orji, also known as “kelly hansome” was brought in to the said Station and taken into custody and remanded on bail in the sum of eight hundred thousand Naira (N800,000.00) concerning, among other things, his admitted willful infringement of the intellectual property rights (copyright) of Mo’Hits Records Limited.
He signed an Undertaking and Apology in favour of the said Mo’Hits Records at about 4p.m., witnessed by several police officers (including Chief Superintendent Victor Erivwode, the Divisional Police Officer). A scan of the said Undertaking is attached to this email. He undertook to refrain from further use of Mo’Hits Recprds Limited’s material, released or unreleased, and offered profuse apologies to Mo’Hits Records Limited. He also appeared to be convincingly remorseful to everyone at the Station, including the extremely distraught father of his equally embarrassed friend mr Rex in Abuja.
The Police Station was attended by the said kelly hansome and his advisers and counsel for his part, and by representatives and counsel for Mo’Hits Records Limited

Album Review: Timi Dakolo – Beautiful Noise

How does one describe good music eloquently? It probably is the hardest thing to do for me. I have heard people equate it to mind blowing sex. I have also heard people equate it to exquisite cuisine. However way one defines it, one thing remains certain, it is undeniable. You remember the first time you heard it, you remember where you were when you heard it and who you were with. If you are like me, it goes instantly into one of your many playlists: “Good music”, “Sex”, “Love”, “Wedding”, “Drive” or “Mellow”.
I still remember the very first time I heard Timi Dakolo.
I was home for Christmas and my dad took the family out to some concert (I forget the name) and it was there I heard about Timi for the first time ever, and when I asked who he was my dad was proud to announce to me that he was the winner of the West African Idol. The mic was bad, the speaker was bad, but still his voice was enthralling and he got a well deserved standing ovation once he was done. I took an interest in him and fast forward a couple years ahead, I now have the honor of reviewing his album.
We definitely apologize for the tardiness as the album was released way back in August, but we reckon that some of you might not have heard it, and even if you have, we just have to share our own opinion of the album.
So what do we think?  - The album is great. Hands down perfect, and the best album out of Nigeria this year.
Here are 12 reasons why I think so.
1. Noise (Skit) – I actually had no idea what language this song was, until my friend told me it was Ijaw. But that’s the beauty of music. The languauge is irrelevant to the fact that his voice on here is beautiful and I never skip this song. Actually at 24 seconds, it can hardly be called a song, right?
2. Let It Shine – The beat of this song always gets me. It makes me pay attention to the song and listen to what Timi is saying. The lyrics are inspiring to say the least and encouraging for anybody who is going through one struggle or the other. The backup singers on the latter part of this song make it quite enjoyable.
9/10
3. The Woman I Love - I LOVE this song. The honesty of this song is what really gets me. Most love songs want to tell you about how they met the girl and immediately fell in love. On this, he says the exact opposite and talks about getting to know her and how he never leaves her. Love it. The reggae tone of this song is also a definite plus.
10/10
4. I Love You - Let me just start by saying what I should have properly started this post with: Cobhams Asuquo is a BEAST. He produces the entire album and he does a very fine job of it. The  mellowness of this song is what makes it so great. Simple song and yet so beautiful.
8/10
5. Heaven Please Ft. M.I - This song is at least two years old, at least! Yet, it remains a great song. You can tell that this song is very personal to him, and he pours out his heart as he cries out to the heavens. M.I’s verse is also solid.
8/10
6. Is It Over Ft. Joan Expai - The background noise, the beginning guitar strings of this song and Timi’s voice as he starts to sing had me hooked and almost in tears. By the time Joan joined him, I was indeed crying and thinking of lost love. Joan’s voice blends in well with Timi, but not perfectly, so I have to deduct points for that. It still remains a great song though.
7/10
7. Love Song - Absolute perfection in a song. I mean, I actually have no words to tell you how lovely this song is. His voice, the piano playing, the lyrics. I feel the need to change the scale, so I could score this song so much higher.
10/10
8. Raise The Roof Ft. Cobhams – I think it’s funny that they felt the need to have an “official party anthem” like they call it but it was not needed. It also does not take anything away from this album, although by putting at number 8, it disturbs the flow of the entire album. I also do not see it actually being played at clubs in Naija, maybe house parties though. Not a bad song.
6/10
9. Love Of My Life - My wedding song and not just have it played, but have Timi himself singing this. The greatness of this song cannot be overstated it. Shout-out to Cobhams on production again. The melody of this song is quite beautiful.
10/10
10. So Beautiful Ft. Elvis Larri - Yoruba girl that I am, this song just has me dancing and shaking my non-existent bum. There is nothing, absolutely nothing better than gangan (talking drums) and a saxophone on a song. Elvis Larri shines on this song as well. I dare you to not like this song.
10/10
11. There’s A cry - I love the poignancy of this song. It’s a song that needs to be heard, but I hate that it comes right after such a fun song. Still, this song speaks to us Nigerians to be the change we want to see and not give up hope.
9/10
12. I love You (Remix) Ft. Jesse Jagz - The fast tempo of this song actually makes it jump a point in my books. I had no problems with the mellow version but yet I find myself really loving this slightly more. The first verse by Jesse Jagz I could have done without, but the second verse was OK.
9/10
Conclusion: – I’m not good with maths, but I believe that totals up to be at least a 9/10 overall. That’s as perfect as they come in this industry. So you should definitely go check it out. Timi also released a premium edition which has two other songs I could not get my hands on before this write up, but from the previews on iTunes, they sound to me like they are also very awesome.
This is great album for the discerning ear and i honestly do not believe it has been given recognition till date. We hope this piece changes that, as we expect it to see songs from and the entire album itself win major awards throughout the next year. Timi Dakolo showed that the wait for the album is totally worth it, his voice is even better, he sings from his heart and we love him for it, we hope you do too.
That’s what I think? What do you guys think? Did you like it? Do i have it right? Let me know.

Why Plantashun Boys broke up – 2face

He had this to say in a recent interview

He said; In life, people come together and at times depart each other’s company.Even marriages break up.Yeah,in life, there are different decisions, different things happen.Basically for me and the rest of the group,we just went solo.

There wasn’t any quarrel or clash of egos as such.Just the fact that Nigeria was not too conducive for a group to survive for long like the long surviving Irish pop group U2.Let me just put it like that.We came together and at a point had to go our separate ways due to the normal conflicts between people. In life, people must disagree.Husband and wife must disagree.Like the African proverb says, even mouth and tongue do quarrel. For us as a group, due to our individual differences,we could have some clashes.

Maybe today,I oversleep and one would come and wake me and tell me:Hei,why are you still sleeping?Don’t you know we have somewhere to go?Maybe,we were supposed to go somewhere and Faze would come late and there would be small quarrel.Or maybe we quarrel over which song to do and which one to drop.

It’s the normal squabble you will expect from when two or three people come together. As at that time,I don’t think we had a leader. All of us were independent.

All of us had an opinion and all of us respected each other’s opinion.Yeah,it was a case of three captains in a ship but everybody still respected each other’s view. When it came to songwriting, sometimes I would write a song and I would bring it for the group or maybe we would sit down together and we would write the song together.Or two of us can write together.

If one person writes a song and it sounds good to the rest of us,everybody would accept it.But most of the time,we wrote together.

Normally,it starts with hearing the beat and all of us would start to flow according to the beat.Or we just choose a topic and we start writing on it and later we go to the studio to do something on it.

Our first album as a group was Body and Soul.It did tremendously well in the market.

It was wonderful. It was a huge success.I still remember a line like:”Baby, don’t you know, that I just can’t get you out of my mind”.Overall,I did three albums with Plantation Boys.

I was the first person that went solo.I just woke up one day and told them straight off that I wanted to go out there and do my own thing. As to be expected they didn’t take it lightly but in the end everybody saw reason and we had to part.We were all talented bunch and we felt we could survive individually. All of a sudden,I was on my own,a couple of labels were talking to me and I was also negotiating with a couple of labels.

Eventually,Kenny’s Music emerged as the one prepared for what I had in mind.So I worked with Kenny’s Music.

My first album with Kenny’s Music was Face to Face.It was a huge album. That’s was the album that produced African Queen. It was one of the most successful albums in the history of Nigerian music.I can say that. The success impacted positively on me and on Kenny’s Music as a business. We had a contract and they just fulfilled their contract

DAY 11: NDLEA TO DETAIN BABA SUWE FOR 14 MORE DAYS

It’s been 11 whole days since Yoruba movie actor Baba Suwe (real name Omidina Babatunde) was detained officers from the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

Reports say that a Federal High Court on Friday, October 21, 2011 approved the request made by the NDLEA to further keep popular comedian the popular actor in custody for 15 more days. The request which was made through NDLEA’s lawyer, Theresa Asuquo was granted by Justice Okechukwu Okeke. Reports also say that a 29-paragraph affidavit presented by an NDLEA intelligence officer, Femi Johnson Osifuye and a CT scan result issued by a consultant radiologist from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Dr. Subhash Vijayvargiya. The documents suggest that Baba Suwe has ‘large amounts of drugs’ in his body.

The NDLEA also made known to the court that Baba Suwe while under observation refused to eat, claiming that he eats only once in three days. Hence they reason for keeping him longer. After his second excretion, they were forced to conduct a CT scan on him. They also advised the actor in his best interest to excrete whatever substance he had swallowed as it would be disastrous for him if it burst in his stomach

However, speaking with Baba Suwe’s publicist Olatunji Saliu, he says Baba Suwe has chosen to remain silent to the whole matter.

And on the news going around that the actor has sued the NDLEA, he says ‘Baba Suwe hasn’t said anything; those suing are Human rights activists whole feel concerned for the actor. ‘They feel Baba Suwe’s detention for 10 days in unlawful since they have not been able to find anything on him after 48 hours‘, Saliu says.

On Monday, Baba Suwe met with his family and had a ‘father to son’ discussion with his first son Sola. Just yesterday, fellow Nigerian movie actors like Jide Kosoko, Ajala, Monsuru Obadina and movie producer Gbenga Adewusi met with the actor.

Baba Suwe who was detained on October 12 in suspicion of possession of hard drugs is still being detained at the NDLEA office at the MMIA, Ikeja. ‘We are still investigating‘, NDLEA spokesperson Ofoyeju Mitchell says.

"WHAT WENT WRONG WITH TERRY G AND DUCAN MIGTHY DEAL" DON JAZZY

In what seems a quick interview, we catch up with the boss and the CEO of Nigeria's greatest music label "MO HITS" ,DON JAZZY, he bares it all out for us and gave us an insight of what happen with the deal between "TERRY G" and "DUNCAN MIGHTY". Enjoy.

Was Duncan Mighty ever on your label?

I like his music and he’s talented. And everybody knows I like to attend concerts. Once anyone has good music, I’ll be there to support. I didn’t get that much love from artistes when I was growing and I would have loved that. If I could attend Tuface, Daddy Showkey’s concerts, that’ll encourage us to move on. I also give them advice on a daily basis. So whenever I see someone with good music, I go all out to support him and it doesn’t have anything to do with competition.

Anytime my boys go to perform in Port-Harcourt, they always tell me that those guys there love Duncan Mighty. So I invited him to Lagos and he came to the house. I told the boys that I’d like to work with him. We had a meeting and I wanted to sign him or do a promotion deal with him. And since he’s also a producer, maybe he’ll be as a sort of co-producer for my label to help reduce some work load. But now, the same thing that happened with Terry G at some point happened. Because if it’s Mo’hits Records, everybody gets excited.

We haven’t signed any deal and he went ahead to tell people that he’s been signed to Mo’Hits. I was in America when I read on the internet that Duncan Mighty has been signed to Mo’Hits Records. And I hadn’t made up my mind yet about him. When I read it, I had to deny on the internet. I was hoping that after I’ve signed him, then I could tell everyone about it, but he took shine away from me. I called Bankuli and asked how the gist came about. I was told he’d already granted interviews saying he’s been signed on by Mo’hits to work as a producer and vocal coach. I ended the deal.

What about the JJC thing?

We were working together but had a misunderstanding. I don’t want to start defending myself or say it’s his fault. I’ll gain nothing by putting him down.

Don Jazzy Reveals All In This Interview

Michael Collins Ajereh (born November 26, 1982), better known as Don Jazzy, is a Nigerian multi award-winning record producer, singer-songwriter, musician and CEO of Nigerian record label Mo’ Hits Records founded in 2004.

Recently rated as the 36th “Most powerful celebrity in Africa” according to Forbes Contents, Don Baba J as he was more fondly called by artists on his label tells his story.

Often mistaken for an older man, Jazzy tells Saturday Vanguard that he is haunted by matured and often married women who want his love.

He also clears the air on certain issues that have become a subject of discourse in the entertainment industry.

Read on:

The first time we were to have this interview ,you said you had nothing to say . So do you have something to say now ?

I still don’t have much to say. It’s just a turning point when I suddenly decided that having finished a lot in a short while, many people want to know why I’ve stopped for a while. So I just got the confidence to talk to the press or anybody who wants to talk to me .

It’s not like I don’t have anything to say. Most times when my boys go for interviews and I get to read them or watch them on TV, 30% of what they say has to do with me. So, there’s no point granting interviews where I’ll have to say the same thing they’ve said about me.

Also, I’m a music producer and director and we’re not supposed to be in the public’s eye. I don’t see reasons why I should bring myself out when there are those who need the publicity more.

But right now, everyone is an individual and got good things going for themselves. D’banj, Wande Coal and others have songs and albums which they can be identified with.

Will it hurt if an album you produce doesn’t sell?

That’s one place where I know God has given me the talent, to always shine. Every producer can put out albums, but there’s a difference between a producer who can put up an album and one who can build an artist. It’s also another thing to have a producer that can make a legend. There are different stages in life and I know that God has given me the gift to look at someone, know the kind of music that’ll fit him and do all it takes to make such a person big.

In the music industry, I make my own rules because the way music is done outside the country is different from the way I do my own job.

Outside the country, the producers and artists get royalties from TV, radio stations and clubs. So there are rules that apply when an artist records a single. But here, we don’t follow those rules because we don’t get any royalties.

So what are your rules?

I make up my rules as I go. If I want to release a single now, I don’t just put out one single. We wait for the video and put it up. If you’ve noticed from when I started, from the time of D’banj’s Entertainer, I put out three songs like Mo Gbona Feli Feli, Olorun Maje and Too Much. These are markets for both the Yoruba, Igbos and others.

At that time, 9ice’s Gongo Aso was out too. Mo Gbona Feli Feli was for the club. Olorun Maje was more like gospel then Too Much was more like a gambling song and they all had their markets.

And if you look at Wande Coal too, we put out three songs too-Bumper To Bumper, Jehovah, Bananna was more like an R & B. I do my things the way I want and from the response I get from people, I decide whether or not to shoot the video.

For D’Prince, we did Omoba, Good Morning Your Highness, Walahi Talai and Ulu. Ulu was a kind of dance in vogue at that time. It was a slow dance for big boys. And it was the dance reigning around the world as at then. Omoba is a club song in Nigeria anytime anyday. Walahi Talai is more like a street song which we gambled with.

Mo’Hits is like a cult where other aspiring artistes are not welcome…

I don’t believe in biting more than I can chew. What’s the point of having a huge catalogue of artistes without enough songs to go round? I decided to build the artistes one after another. D’banj is gone already, Dr. Sid is still coming up, D’Prince is still coming up too. I haven’t even got a song for K. Switch so why should I go get other new artistes?

So why hasn’t K.Switch taken off yet?

I haven’t got a single for him yet. The reason is that he had a problem with his mum in the beginning when he wanted to start doing music. D’banj too had a problem with his mum because he is a Mechanical Engineer. So, me picking that boy to do music wasn’t easy because he’s D’banj’s younger brother.

So you were seen like an enemy?

Yes. Even when we were doing the Mo’hit crew album and we showcased everybody inside, the mum didn’t know that K.Switch was part of the album. At that time , he was still in school.

By the time she found out, she told us she didn’t have any problem with it since I’d already turned D’banj into a musician but that I should allow K.Switch to finish school.

D’banj stopped school at his 300L and they are the only boys in the family. So the parents just wanted to make sure K.Switch graduated . That’s why it affected K.Switch.

I thought you are supposed to sign on to your label, the winner of the Enigma competition?

I’m working towards bigger projects. Enigma and the Oliver projects were test runs for the bigger project that I’m working on, the Entertainer /Koko Mansion show. So they are going to be the fore- runners for what we called The First Lady.

For over three years now, people have been accusing us of not having females in Mo’Hits. I don’t buy that idea but at the same time, I have to study the market and know how to take care of a lady. Because the way you cater for ladies in the industry is different from how you take care of the guys.

When we all started Mo’hits for the first three years, all of us lived together. We could wake at midnight depending on when the inspiration comes. But I don’t think a woman can go through such stress. So I need to understand how to work with females. Then with the Enigma concept, I also wanted to do a reality show that’ll be different from what everyone has done. So, I’m still looking for songs and artistes because none of our reality show winners have really grown to P-Square and D’banj’s level

Except for K.C Presh?

I wouldn’t even say K.C Presh is there yet. They have a couple of hits but I think they did better than almost everybody. But the important thing is that they tried. So basically, I don’t want to do what others do and if I put out information for girls to apply, there would be many of them. But then, in order for us to do the competition and maximise it, I decided to start from the internet rather than have the regular crowd come over and listen to us and then we’ll start giving them time and all that. All that strategy even put fear into people.

So the internet thing allows people to record with their phones or call a camera person to guide them and post it on the internet. The Enigma was a trial on the internet. The difference is that it will help us minimise the number of people that’ll be called at the end of the day.

I’ll then create a website like the You Tube where people can visit and record a one minute video, sing, rap or play instrument and upload it and I’ll give my comments on them. So the person that wins eventually becomes the first lady. I’m going to take her and everyone that’ll work with her from the internet.I’m picking her backup singers and her full band, her stylist, hairdresser, bodyguards, writers and others. First of all, it’s going to start from the internet. Then we’ll move to Koko Mansion.

What’s the new concept of Koko Mansion?

It’s D’banj’s house that hosts different kinds of reality show. Today Koko Mansion could be searching for the biggest entrepreneur and tomorrow the greatest banker. The first one was looking for the ideal woman. But then, everyone that’s going to work for that first lady is going to have an entourage from day one. She’s going to have a house, car, makeup artistes and others.

Is she ready yet?

Yes she’s ready

When is that going to be?

We started it from August and it’ll be till the next quarter of next year.

What’s the real deal between you and Kanye West?

Kanye West met D’banj in Dubai. D’banj played him some of his songs and Kanye liked what he heard. So, he invited us to New York. When we got there, he said he likes D’banj as an artiste and me as a producer, and that he’ll like to work with both of us. Then I got signed on as a producer under Good Music. So Kanye is now my boss.

He can call me up at any time to do one or two things for him. I already have lot of stuffs I ought to be doing over there but I’m just using D’banj as an excuse not to be there right now. In fact, I’m working on D’banj’s new album as well.

If an artist gets signed in America, he’ll probably be signed on a $1m . This means, they’re going to spend $1m on the artist’s project.

The artist gets may be $250 000 for his welfare and the remaining $750 000 will be for the recording and marketing of the album. And of course, the record company will at the end of the day recoup the money spent on the artist. But then, they sent us the contract for the signing of D’banj. We liked it because we’ve been looking for an American record deal.

So the first thing they said was that they were going to spend about $8000 000 to $1m for the deal. But when we looked at how the royalties were to be shared, it didn’t make sense because it’s a typical record deal they’ll give to an ordinary artiste in America.

There’s something they call the 360 deal where they’ll take some of the artiste’s endorsement and merchandise. But we told them we’re ahead of that and we didn’t need their advance payment because it’s not as if we’re poor. We told them we wanted a partnership. And that we wanted us to come together and do the album.

We offered to give half of the money and they also would put down the other half. So they asked us to give them time to think about it. Later they came back and said they didn’t really know that we were so big in Africa, that they’ve done their research and saw that $1m wouldn’t be enough for the kind of project we’re looking at. One of Kanye’s manager is also managing Lil Wayne, Drakes and others. So he gave us the same budget they’d give to Drake. It’s massive attack on promotion. We also took that opportunity to study how the market runs over there. We agreed. It’s a 60-40 and the contract has since been signed.

As a producer there, can you bring in other artiste beside D’banj on board?

Yes. First of all, they signed me as an artiste although I’m now under Kanye West as a producer. But on D’banj’ project, I’m a partner. So the deal is Good Music/Mo’Hits Records. For now, they don’t know the people under Mo’Hits Records. All they know is that the project on ground is D’banj’s album. I can bring in anyone I feel like bringing as long as the same percentage we agreed on is still on.

I read somewhere in the papers that you’re members of a cult called Iluminati. What is lluminati in the first place?

If you go to Google, you’ll find out who the members of illuminati are. It’s supposed to be an arm of what we call the Ogboni here. It’s Ogboni affliated. From what I’ve read, it’s a group of people that control America and it has members like the present and past presidents of America. They come together to help each another and at the same time, they worship the devil.

Kanye West, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and other big artiste in America are alleged to be part of them because they’re successful. They’ve always said Jay Z, Gaga and others are part of it because their videos look devilish but I don’t agree because all they do is an art.

What about the story that you and D’banj were caught with drugs?

It’s ridiculous. My father has called me more than ten times to find out where I was because he heard the rumour that I was arrested and locked up in London for drug pushing. I’ve never seen drugs in my life and I don’t even smoke weed. But I smoke cigarette.

What’s your experience with the ladies like ?

They don’t react to me as much as they react to D’banj and others. D’banj and others are good looking with nice bodies.

What makes you think you aren’t good looking?

I don’t think ladies are attracted to me.

What makes you think they are not attracted to you ?

My face is hard and a lot of people try to guess my age. Some said I’m 35, 36, 37, 38 years. Some even said I’m 39. The fact is that the name Don Jazzy is always respected and they see me like an old man. I actually get advances from older women.

Why?

Because they think I’m old.

Sure your face looks really mature?

Yes, it does. I actually grew up faster than my mates. So I’m wiser than the average human being and even when I talk, people would think I’m an old man. So I get more advances from married people.

So how do you handle them?

It’s a vow D’banj and I made a long time ago. We vowed never to date married women because it doesn’t go down well with our religion and core values. So it’s just a few young people that come around.

Is Ikechukwu still on your label?

No

Was he ever on your label?

I’ll say yes and no, because it’s not like we signed a long term deal. We basically signed some sort of single deal and a single deal, are the three songs that we normally put out. For me, I look at him, he’s 36 something and he isn’t getting any younger. But he has grown to be D’banj’s friend and he’s having problems with Storm Record. And Storm Records wouldn’t just let go of him. So D’banj asked me to help him and I agreed to give him a single deal. When we started the deal, I decided to extend it to an album. But then, we had a few misunderstanding along the line and called off the album deal.

And what about Duncan Mighty?

I like his music and he’s talented. And everybody knows I like to attend concerts. Once anyone has good music, I’ll be there to support. I didn’t get that much love from artistes when I was growing and I would have loved that. If I could attend Tuface, Daddy Showkey’s concerts, that’ll encourage us to move on. I also give them advice on a daily basis. So whenever I see someone with good music, I go all out to support him and it doesn’t have anything to do with competition.

We were working together but had a misunderstanding. I don’t want to start defending myself or say it’s his fault. I’ll gain nothing by putting him down.

Your father was also a music producer. So how much impact did he have on you?

Most of the people in music today always say their parents didn’t want them to do music. Mine was easier. Every member of my generation is in support because they were also into music. They wanted and knew that I would end up doing music. When I was younger, I used to play drums, guitar and they’ve supported me from day one. My family is my biggest fan.

‘YES I’M LEAVING BEAT FM’ – OREKA CONFIRMS

It started with a set of Tweets but Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET) can now confirm that popular on-air personality, Oreka Godis also known as Rhecks will be leaving the Lagos urban radio station THE BEAT 99FM where she has worked for two years and seven months.

On Sunday, October 16, 2011, the OAP had taken to Twitter to hint her followers of her future departure; ‘#ThatAwkwardMoment when you try to figure out how to let your listeners know you’ve come to the end of the road’, @Rhecks tweeted.

In an exclusive chat with our reporters, Oreka confirmed to us that she tended her letter of resignation to the company on Friday, October 14, 2011 and will stop work at the radio station at the end of October 2011.

‘I’ve been thinking of leaving The BEAT for a while now, but I have had reasons to stay; you know I have a good relationship with my colleagues Tolu (Toolz), Gbemi. Bukky and Tintin of Classic FM are also good friends’, Rhecks told NET in a telephone conversation.

According to Oreka, her reasons for leaving the radio station are ‘personal’. And when we asked if it had anything to do with the recent altercation between radio host Olisa Adibua and a junior staff she said ‘No, I’m just leaving for reasons best known to me. For me, I have a lot of things I still want to do, I would love to go into documentary or even TV production. I’ve enjoyed the last two years on radio, the love, tweets and care from people’.

Oreka moved from the UK to Nigeria to pick up the job of a radio host at the BEAT FM in March 2009. In less than three years she has become very popular with the weekday show ‘Morning Rush’ which she co-anchors with Olisa Adibua.

GADDAFI’S MURDER- CELEBRATION AND HYPOCRISY

Yesterday, Thursday, October 20, 2011, Africaand Arab’s longest serving ruler, Muomar Gaddafi was brutally murdered on the streets of Sirte, the land of his birth. The truck he was travelling with was reportedly intercepted and Gaddafi was accosted. He was shot and while still alive, his body dragged about the city to his death. In a simple term, he died like an animal; not even a pet. Being one of the most atrocious ways to die, his murder has precipitated world- wide rejoicing; and reasonably so. This man ruledLibya for 42 years and in the process stepped on toes (mostly Western toes). No wonder they wanted his head. There is therefore a flip- side.

Not going the religious route but human beings are reported to have been made in the image of the creator. In essence, there is a wide margin between us and animals. When has the death of a human being become occasions for merriment? Granted, Gaddafi was made out to be a de-facto monster but even then did he do what other world leaders have not done? What world leader does not murder, oppress, even enrich himself and people close to him while in power? What world leader does not do anything in their power to retain incumbency? What world leader does not engage in inhuman, sometimes illegal practises to protect their own? For example the United States of America and Barack Obama. What are ‘security agencies’ like the CIA, FBI and NIA there for? Do they not train spies (assassins) that constantly kill America’s enemies? Who are we fooling?

The fact that Muomar Gaddafi had his excesses does not make him different from Barack Obama. Naturally, for one to be a leader in this crazy world, one has to deviate from being human. Gaddafi’s 42-year rule was marked by violence, yes but was that all we should remember him for? In the process of ridding Libya of Western interference, he hurt people.

Only an African without knowledge of his history will rejoice over Gaddafi’s murder. He wanted and constantly fought for a United States of Africa to rival theUSandEurope. While other African leaders just paid lip-service to achieving this vision; pretending to like the idea, Gaddafi was solo in seriously putting it into practice. What is wrong with that idea? This Gaddafi was instrumental to the formation of the African Union, being its Chairman even at the time of his death.

This ‘monster’ was an epitome of citizen diplomacy. He protected Libyans from being messed with by foreign governments. Nigerians, can you confidently say that your President cares about you? Can we say that our government is always there to shield us when we need it? Because of the kind of leader Gaddafi was, during the 1990s Libya endured economic and diplomatic sanctions for his refusal to hand over two Libyans accused of planting a bomb on Pan Am Flight 103 which exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland.

This Muomar Gaddafi was also instrumental with the ousting of the Apartheid government in South Africans. Through his financial and moral support, South Africans fought for their liberation. They are happier for it as Nelson Mandela even named one of his grandsons- Gaddafi. And yet he is such a terrible addition to mankind and should die like an animal?

One life to God is equally important that 45 million lives. Granted, people died during his reign. It’s fair to say that any ruler who holds power for that long will have the same rap sheet. It is indeed disgusting to see how low humans have descended in celebrating a murder. It is also hypocritical to believe we all are better humans than Gadaffi. By your thoughts, words or actions everyone of us has killed another. If we all have the power that Gaddafi had, would we not carry out our threats on a daily basis? How many lives will be preserved if that was the case?

Have you either refused or delayed payment to a menial worker after labouring for you, while he goes home to a hungry wife and sick child? Then, you are a Gaddafi. Have you hurt someone, maybe a lover to the extent that he/ she goes home and cries to the Creator? You are at that point a Gaddafi. Have you in anyway oppressed someone to the point of where the person prays for death to come take him? People die in various ways. One might claim not to be a murderer but some of our actions or inactions hurt people daily to the point of hopelessness.

Unpopular opinions this may be but we need to look in the mirror. No one deserves to die like Muomar Gaddafi died. Even Osama Bin Laden had a more merciful death. There is a Gaddafi in each of us. It then depends on every individual to either exploit or suppress his inner- Gaddafi.

Tonto Dike: I can pull off a good dish, but I hate the kitchen

Tonto Dike is the girl you want to cuddle and hate. On the one hand, she has this likeable personality that almost made SAMUEL OLATUNJI want to pass the night in her house and pet her to sleep. On the other hand are those movie roles that make mothers snatch the television remote control from their kids.

Is Tonto all we see on TV, and what is her pact with cigarettes, weeds and ‘back-for-ground-money-for-hand’ moves? She bares it all on a cozy night in the comfort of her living room, alone with Sunday Sun.

Do you stay alone?
Yes, I stay alone.

You stay alone in this big building, don’t you get scared or lonely?
I don’t get scared. Sometimes I’m lonely, but I have friends that come over to hook up with me sometimes.

Does that not mean the celebrity world is lonely out there?
Yes, it is a very lonely world, but you get to have a lot of fun and sometimes you could be bored.

Why do you still want to be a celebrity?
I just love my job, being a celebrity doesn’t really matter; it’s just the interest and love for the job.

Sometimes, when it does get really lonely, what do you do?
I try to make myself come out of it. I think positively in everything thereby bringing the best out of me, and basically I just don’t ever want to fail, so that’s another reason why no matter how lonely I get, I just want to keep doing my job and doing it well each day.

Why don’t you have a boyfriend?
(Laughs) Who says I don’t have one? Okay, I don’t have one.

If I were your boyfriend, I would close from work and be here, what do you think?
Some things are not just really necessary at a particular time, and this is that time, where it really isn’t necessary because sometimes they could be a baggage.

A boyfriend is a baggage?
Maybe not really a baggage.

Are you happy?
I’m excited, in terms of being happy, I am willing to achieve more.

At this stage of your life, you should be happy, don’t you think so?
Yeah, I am happy about my work and I know there are better things ahead, and there are new things to be done. I am very happy, but not satisfied.

Oliver Twist, what more do you want?
I want more challenges in the job, more beautiful scripts, more of everything you can think of.

Some say you are the richest young girl around now, are you?
I don’t know about that, I just know I can fend for myself.

Is acting all you do?
No, I’m into cars as well, but acting is the major thing I do.

When last were you in Enugu or Asaba to shoot a movie?
I just came back from Enugu.
I know the likes of Omotola, Genevieve, Ini Edo, Rita Dominic have stopped going to Enugu…

(Cuts in) I don’t know for whatsoever reason they did that, but I’m still going there and I’m still going to work there.

You’ve got tattoo on your legs, arms and I think on your cleavage too, where else do you have a tattoo?
Talking about tattoos, I love tattoos a lot. I just love art and everything about art; painting, poetry, everything, and tattoo is an art I really love so much. That’s why I have them.

The one on your leg, what does it mean?
It seems to be in Chinese or something? Yeah, it’s Tee. Some people call me Tee, people who are really close to me.

I know people who call you Tontolet and some people call you Tee; which do you like better?
I think I’m passionate about Tontolet, maybe because Don Jazzy…

What has Don Jazzy got to do with Tontolet?
As in the way he popularized Kokolet with D’banj.

When I met you years back, you were in your final year and then I read somewhere that you stopped, and I wondered why would Tonto do that? Is it true that you stopped schooling?
I didn’t stop, I finished. I struggled to finish, even though it was really difficult, but I finished and made sure I came out with a good grade that can make me somebody in life.

So, you are a certified petrochemical engineer?
Yes, I am.

But, you didn’t serve?
No, I didn’t, but I think I will when everything is calm.

If you were to define wealth, what would it be?
I think wealth is family, although wealth also comes with material things, but primarily family; and love is what makes wealth worthwhile.

Would you say you are wealthy?
Oh yes, I am very wealthy.

Let’s come to material wealth, how wealthy are you materially?
I dey try.

Let’s talk about success, how would you define success?
I would define success as a dream come true, a dream that has materialized. When you have a dream and you give birth to that dream and it becomes fruitful, that’s success.

Are you successful?
Yes, I can actually say I am successful, but like I said, I want more of everything though, I am very happy with the level I am and how well I am doing in the industry.

Sometimes do you feel robbed of your privacy or freedom?
Yeah, sometimes I feel robbed of my life, my privacy, though in a good way it takes a lot from me and also gives me a lot to do.

Between Tonto Dike or Tonto the movie star, which would you choose?
I think I would choose Tonto as Tonto, but with the star money.

So, you are actually confirming that you guys make money?
Yes, of course, we do.

You were part of Next Movie Star, were you not?
Yes, it gave me everything, my first starting point.

Is it true you abandoned school for Next Movie Star?
School was not in session when I went for it. I was in my house when I went for it. I weighed everything and that was my first chance and I wasn’t going to gamble with anything. I wasn’t going to miss much in school and if I was to miss class, it wouldn’t be more than a week.

And you came second?
I was the first runner-up.

Here you are now, a celebrity, what did you do right, what did you do wrong?
I don’t know, I guess it’s the size of my dream. The size of my dream drove me to the success magnet. My dream is so large I just want to be successful, and since I had this big dream, I cannot just sit down and wait for people to give me free things. I want to make the money myself, so I think that’s what drove me to success. But God has different stories for everyone.

You said you want more of success, I am going to break it down a little bit; what kind of success would you want as an actress?
I would really like to venture into Hollywood, that’s like the biggest dream for me right now, and I am hoping it would happen, if that happens, that would be my perfect idea of success.

For you as a person, what has stardom robbed you of?
It has robbed me of everything.

Please, be specific.
I can’t give specifications, but I think privacy is the major thing stardom has robbed me of. Once you are a celebrity, your life becomes public, so basically, it’s just my privacy.

What is the craziest thing you’ve done in public?
I don’t know, because being in public to me is crazy. I don’t know the craziest thing I’ve done.

For the purpose of those who don’t know, how did it start? Tell me the story before Next Movie Star and the movie after Next Movie Star?
Let’s just say I was opportune to be picked for the audition. What did I have to lose? So, I went for the audition and for NMS and I came out second, and after that I also met one girl and I featured in her movie, Secret Pain and her second movie. After that I went to AMAA Awards with my very close friend, Larry Koldsweat, who handed me over to Amaco and Amaco is my godfather. That’s just how everything started and since that day, I’ve not stopped working.

What year was your first movie?
2006.

Those who knew you before 2006 said Tonto is an hyper-active person…

(Cuts in) I think that would be very true depending on how you look at it. Yes, I am a very hyper active person and I have always had that craziness in me. No, I won’t call it craziness; I would just call it a normal thing for me, but acting did a little bit of hyping too. It contributed to it.

What crazy things did you not have that acting brought?
I never used to curse a lot, though I had the problem of cursing, or use swear words, but at a point it reduced, but when I came into acting it all came back

Are you a born-again?
Like my pastor always says, as long as you have Christ in your life, you are born again, but I wouldn’t say I am living 100% Christian life, no.

Who is your pastor?
I have two, I go to two churches and I am a full member of Christ Embassy, but because I want to be able to go to church every Sunday when I am around, I sometimes go to a church near my house.

So, if you were to get married today, where would that be?
Uhhhm! I don’t know.

Surprisingly, I read an interview where you spoke up for Mercy Johnson and I remember somebody at work saying, it was strange considering the celebrated rift between you, Uche and a lot of other people. What propelled to speak up for her, she was supposed to be your enemy?
No matter how much we don’t get along, it’s still very difficult to sit down and watch something bad happen to your enemy. It was nothing really, not like I was standing up for her or anything, I just spoke up because it was happening too often and keeping quiet was out of it.

If you see her today, would you say hello?
I don’t need to, because we are not friends; but if the need arises…

Can you girls ever be friends?
That I don’t know. I am not sure, but, of course, she’s my colleague.

What happened between you two in the first place?
I have never talked about it and I don’t think I would like to talk about it, not for public consumption.

How come women don’t get along?
Some women are just very empty inside, very shallow. I don’t know about others, but I just think we are afraid of who we are. It’s surprising as well, why we can’t get along with other women, but I also think sometimes it could be inferiority complex, envy.

Who else don’t you get along with, or who doesn’t get along with you?
I get along with everybody and everybody gets along with me.

How does it feel when you sit down to read a lot of things about you on the internet, for example, about your outfit to the premiere of “Damage” in the US?
The thing is, first of all, I do not go to all those websites to read because I want to stay sane, but when I hear about it, it doesn’t really bother me. The person who actually sat down to write that should really go home and cry for himself. I love what I wore and if I had the chance I would wear it again and rub their noses in it so they can keep talking.

It makes some celebrities cry; you know, bad press…
(Cuts in) I’m a strong woman. I won’t shed a tear for something written about me. I’ve developed a thick skin toward all these things. Now, it’s like they don’t exist. You say something about me, and I begin to laugh and carry on, go on twitter and talk with my followers and laugh and carry on, so if you are waiting for me to get down because of what you are writing about me, then you have to try something harder, I only get a little bit worried because of my family, because it would really hurt me if my family breaks down because of what they hear or read about me. So far, they have been really wonderful

How many siblings do you have?
My mother gave birth to five; my dad got married to another woman. My step-mother has two children, but not for my father, so we are seven children, I have six siblings.

You are in what position?
From my mother, I am the third, but from my father, I’m the first…. My step mum is a very wonderful woman, the best step-mum in the whole world. She’s gorgeous.

What happened to your mum?
My mum died when I was three years old.

Do you miss her?
I didn’t know her, but I wish I did.

What of your father? Did he try?
I don’t know if any other father could do better. He did all he could. He brought us up single-handedly with help from his mother and his sisters. Sometimes he would leave work to attend to us. He really tried.

What did he do?
He used to work with Nigerian Breweries and he also had other businesses of his own. He was into real estate, a politician. He had his finger in many pies.

What does he do now?
He is into oil, politics.

Where does he live?
Port Harcourt.

So, are you from Rivers State?
Yes, I’m from Rivers State.

Are you close to the government?
No, I haven’t had a strong relationship with the government.

Would you ever produce a movie?
I have co-produced a movie with a fellow colleague of mine, Ini, but I’m also planning something on my own, but I’m not in a hurry. Acting is more of my interest. I love acting.

What do you do with your money?
I love to see money rolling in and I also invest in different things: property and other things.

When people say you are wild, does it get to you?
No, it doesn’t. They are just talking based on my roles in movies. Most times when I just walk on the street the way they laugh at me or call me, you would know they watch you a lot. So, they just feel they know you already and judge you based on what they see in the movies.

How come you haven’t been at the big screen (Cinema) yet?
I have Damage at the cinema and, of course, I have my own coming up, it’s one step at a time.

Who cleans your house for you?
I have a cleaner and I also do it myself. I hate dirt, but I have someone who comes around to do the cleaning every other day.

Now that you are traveling, who would be here?
I would have my sister come around, but I don’t know if she would accept. If she doesn’t, then I would lock up my house.

Do you party a lot?
Surprisingly, I don’t. You would hardly see me in clubs; I love to be at home or just chill in small bars. I hardly go for parties, but I drink reasonably, something I can handle.

Do you smoke a lot?
I just have a bad habit there.

Do you know why I asked those two questions, because people describe you as a wild person considering the fact that you smoke and drink, do you do these things heavily?
No. I don’t. I respect my body a lot and you know there are times you do these things and you just know your body can’t take it anymore, so you just need to learn how to control yourself and respect your body and definitely, I would not want to mess up myself, so I drink very responsibly and smoke maybe a little out of control, but not to the extreme.

Do you smoke weed?
Seriously, you don’t expect me to answer that, do you?

What is the weirdest thing you have ever done?
I can’t think of any, I don’t really do weird stuff like that. Basically, my life is all about my work, so the little fun I have I get it indoors.

Did anything really happen between you and Wizkid?
Wizkid is my friend and I appreciate his music and we are friends on twitter. We tweet at each other, but people blew the whole thing out of proportion because of my calling him sweet names like baby, sweetheart and the rest, and generally, this is how I address everybody on twitter, there is nothing to it, I address people in different terms, so there was nothing to it, if we had anything to hide, we would have done it by ‘DM’, but Wizkid is a very wonderful person.

And you didn’t buy him a car?
I don’t know where that story came from.

Did you buy him a car?
I said I don’t know where that story came from, no, I didn’t.

Let me tell you what I heard, that you bought him a car and when you were pissed off with him, you asked some people to go and snatch the car from him, is that true?
I heard that also, I don’t know where that came from, we are still friends, we are cool, I don’t even know where the story generated from.

Can you date somebody like Wizkid?
If you are talking about his age, I think age is nothing but numbers, but you have to be a mature person at a certain level.

So, can you date somebody like him?
When you say someone like him, do you mean a musician? I really don’t know, but if it happens, who am I to say no to love?

Where’s the weirdest point love has taken you?
I think my last relationship, that’s the weirdest place love took me. I cannot give you the reason why I said so.
How long did it last?
It was good, I can’t count.

What could a man possibly do to tamper with your fragile nature as a woman?
I think domestic violence, that’s like the only thing that can actually trample my ego as a woman, especially if it’s a man I have something to do with, I think that would really damage my ego a lot and it would break me.

They said you once broke a bottle because a man harassed you, not physically though, but you wanted to stab the man because he harassed you, is it true?
That never happened, why would I want to do that? I really don’t know how dumb stories come out, why would I want to break the head of someone I am working with, it’s really crazy where these stories originate from.

Did you ever date Tchidi Chikere?
No, he was my very good friend.

How was your childhood?
It was good, very good, although I really wish I had a mother around, but my childhood was great, there was nothing I wanted that I didn’t get.

What did you miss in not having a mother?
I didn’t miss anything really, just the love, but my step-mother really tried to teach me everything, including cooking, but I just wasn’t interested.

So, you can’t cook?
I can pull off a good dish, but I hate the kitchen.

When you don’t have a boyfriend, I assume you don’t have one now, and you need a man around, what do you do?
I can’t answer that question.

No, I don’t mean sex, it has nothing to do with sex, do you understand?
I just can’t answer that question.

What can you say about “Damage”?
Through the movie we are now aware that domestic violence is wrong and this is something that happens every day in our country, and people get killed through this process. So, the movie is creating awareness.

Your part in the movie, taking drugs and all, but in real life, have you ever experimented with drugs?
No, I have not.

So, how did you pull it off in the movie?
I studied the script well, and I have three people I am supposed to stay with and study how they behaved so that I can interpret the role perfectly.

What do you think when people take it away from women, from the perspective of the treatment women receive on daily basis?
I think it is very demeaning, using myself as an example, I am a very hardworking woman, I make so much money and I work so hard and go out and buy gifts for myself, because I appreciate myself, so why would someone who doesn’t know me come and say, oh, one man has bought this thing for her, it’s very wrong and insulting, it’s like you don’t expect a woman to be hardworking and to buy herself beautiful things. It’s funny that it’s even women who talk about other women the most.

Have you ever slept with a man to get something?
No, I haven’t.
People say you can’t go far in this industry without sleeping with one man or the other, what do you think?
I don’t believe that, using my own story as an example, I was just introduced to a producer who needed an artist to project, so I never went through all that and he is like a father figure. So, I never went through all that, that’s why I don’t believe it ever happens, though I hear such stories, but I can’t say for sure if it happens, since it never happened to me.

From experience, what would you watch out for in your next relationship?
I don’t know, but probably not to repeat the same mistakes I made in the first one.

When would you get married?
Every woman’s dream is to get married: people have different dreams, not like I don’t want to get married, but I am just indifferent about it, if it comes, fine, if it doesn’t, all right by me.

What is the alternative?
If you are not married, then you are single.
