MANDELA’S GRANDDAUGHTERS FEATURE IN REALITY TV SHOW

Three of former president Nelson Mandela‘s granddaughters are set to hit the TV screen as they will featuring in their very own reality show.

Viewers will be taken into the world of Zaziwe Dlamini-Manaway, 34, Swati Dlamini, 32 (both Zenani Mandela‘s daughters), and cousin Dorothy Adjoa Amuah, 27, as they go about their everyday lives. The producers of the show have emphasized that the series will not be about the Mandela family.

The yet-to-be titled show will be produced by popular South African director Graeme Swanepoel and US producer Rick Leed (of the Dr 90210 reality show) has also been linked to working with the crew. The show might be aired in other countries including the US.

The three ladies who grew up in Boston, Massachusetts have made it clear enough that are not trying to be the ‘African Kardashians’ but are trying to show the world South Africa is not just ‘about wild animals on the road’.

‘By no means are we representatives of the Mandela family, but our family is so intertwined that you will see some of them in it’, Dorothy Adjoa Amuah says.

‘They’re not into trash TV. They want something with dignity and this show will show authentic and modern South African women. The bond between them was immediately clear, too. So, they’re not just sisters but friends’, Leed comments.

Neither will Mandela nor his wife Graca feature in the series.

Shooting is expected to commence later on this year and will be aired early 2012.
