The Nigeria Police is keeping information on the sudden disappearance of Pa Michael Obi, father of Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi to its chest.
SuperSport.com’s attempts to squeeze emerging details from the Plateau State Police PRO, Apev Jacob, failed as he settled on talking on the briefs taken by the force to find Michael Obi Senior.
"The case with the state CID. The (Plateau police) commissioner is on top of everything and we have deployed everyone to search everywhere for Mr Michael Obi.
"I know we will get to the root of this. For now, I can't tell you more than that until I am briefed on the latest development. If there's any new development the police will make it official but like I said investigation is still ongoing," Jacob told SuperSport.com.
It is understood that on Wednesday the mother of Mikel, Mrs Rose Obi, surprisingly debunked media reports claiming that her family is now in contact with the kidnappers.
It is reported that she told newsmen at her Rayfield residence in Jos that it was only the Mercedes Benz car of her husband that was recovered around Riyom local government area of Plateau State.
"We have not been contacted and we don't know his present location. As I told you, we have only recovered the car through the assistance of somebody who saw it and reported to us," said Mrs Obi.
Already, Mikel's elder brother, Ebele Obi, had lifted the lid on ongoing talks between his family and kidnappers of their father.
Ebele confirmed to a radio station, Brila FM on Thursday that his family is in talks with the abductor of his dad.
The Enugu Rangers goalkeeper also said the amount being demanded as ransom for his father's release exceeds the N20 million reported.
